Day 145 - CV boots and electrics

One of the CV boots I put on earlier wasn't the world's newest boot, so I decided to replace the two outer boots. Unfortunately, I didn't know what car they came from, and the first guess (Sierra 4x4) was wrong. So, late last week I took one to Camberley Motor Factors, and they told me which one I needed - however, they didn't have any in stock, but the Basingstoke branch did. So, I went there and found they weren't right either. I left the boot with Terry, who called me yesterday to say he'd got a couple, so I went and picked them up. They're not an exact match (slightly smaller), but they went on fine.

I also replaced the temporary bolts with some 12.2 grade high tensile bolts instead. They shouldn't snap!

Another thing I'd ordered was some 35A cable, and some 25A spade connectors. This was to replace the 15A connectors and cables I'd doubled-up to allow more current. I also wanted to move the relays (they were in the way of the fuse box cover), so took the opportunity to lengthen them a bit.

Yet another thing that I'd ordered had also arrived today - the map sensor.

Unfortunately, it's got a different connector to the one that's on my wiring loom, so a call to SBD eventually sorted it out (I don't think they want me modifying the loom - despite my degree in electronic engineering).

I also fitted the filter directly onto the intake (earlier, I was using a long 70mm pipe to bring it down to the sill, but since I'm not using that any more, it can stay here for the moment).

Other things I did was to fit the relay for the radiator fan, and also sorted out a fault that had developed in the dashboard electrics that I found when I plugged it all back in together (and then fixed another fault that developed while I was finding the other one). However, at the end of the day, it was all working - and the DigiDash was happier now it had pretty much all of its senders connected (it's reading no fuel, but I know there isn't a lot in there).
